Interior design cost in Gurugram: what actually decides the price
By NeeV InteriorS · Updated 7 November 2026 · 6 min read
If you ask three interior designers in Gurugram what your 3 BHK will cost, you will probably get three very different numbers. That is not because someone is cheating. It is because the word “interior” can mean very different amounts of work. This guide explains what really moves the price, so you can compare quotes properly.
1. The scope of work
The biggest factor is what is included. Some quotes cover only carpentry such as the kitchen and wardrobes. Others cover everything: false ceiling, electrical work, lighting, painting, flooring changes, furniture and decor. A lower number often just means a smaller scope.
2. Materials and finishes
The same wardrobe can be made with different boards, laminates, veneers or paint finishes, and with different hardware. These choices change both the look and the life of the product. Ask to see samples and the brand or grade of each material, not just the word “premium”.
3. How much carpentry your home needs
Modular kitchen, wardrobes, TV unit, storage beds, study unit and pooja unit are usually the heaviest part of a home interior. The more built-in storage you want, the higher the cost. Many families save by building the essentials first and adding loose furniture later.
4. Ceilings, lighting and electrical work
False ceilings, cove and profile lights, extra points and switch changes add cost, and they are easiest to plan before work starts. Changing them later means opening finished walls and ceilings.
5. Furniture and decor
Sofas, dining tables, curtains, rugs and accessories are sometimes included in a package and sometimes not. Always ask whether they are in the quote.
6. Civil changes and renovation
Breaking walls, changing bathrooms, replacing flooring or fixing waterproofing is separate from interior work and can change the budget a lot. In an older apartment or builder floor, a site visit is essential before anyone can give a reliable figure.
7. Timeline and site conditions
Working in an empty new flat is simpler than working in a home where the family is living. Access, society rules for working hours, lift availability and the floor you are on can all affect time and cost.
Two ways quotes are written
Most quotes follow one of two styles. A package or per square foot rate is easy to understand, but you must check exactly what it includes. An itemised quote lists each unit with its size, material and price. It is longer to read but much easier to compare.
Questions to ask before you sign
- What exactly is included, and what is not?
- Which materials and brands are used for each item?
- Is the quote itemised, with sizes for every unit?
- What happens to the price if I ask for a change later?
- How are payments linked to work done on site?
- What warranty do I get, and what are its conditions?
- Who does the work: your own team or outside contractors?
How to keep the budget under control
- Decide your must-haves first: kitchen, wardrobes and bedrooms usually come before decorative items.
- Plan electrical and ceiling work early, before any carpentry begins.
- Ask for two material options for the same item, with the price difference.
- Build in phases if needed: finish the essentials now, add furniture and decor later.
- Get the final scope and price in writing before work starts.

Frequently asked questions
Why do interior quotes in Gurugram differ so much?
Because the scope, materials, brands and finishes included in each quote are different. Compare itemised quotes with the same scope before judging the price.
Is a per square foot rate reliable?
It is a useful starting point, but only if you know exactly what it covers. Ask for the inclusions and the material grade in writing.
Can I reduce the cost without losing quality?
Yes. Prioritise essentials, choose simpler finishes for low-use areas and add furniture and decor in phases.
